Shepherd Wins 3000m at East Stroudsburg Invitational
BLOOMSBURG- Bloomsburg University runner Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp./ Seneca Valley) won the 3000 meters at the East Stroudsburg All-American Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Shepherd finished in a time of 9:02 to finish first out of 24 competitors. Beth Schwing (Hershey/ Lower Dauphin) took second in the 3000 meters in a PSAC qualifying time of 10:36 and Connie Rainieri (Gilberstville/ St. Pius X) took second in both the 400 meters (59.61) and the 200 meters (25.95) to lead the women's team.
Other top finishers for the men's team were Misha Litnov (Drums/ Hazleton) (9:15), Jim Stockley (Elverson/ Twin Valley) (9:17), Dan Downing (Ambler/ Wissahickon) (9:22) and Ben Holmes (Waynesboro/ Waynesboro) (9:26) who took fifth through eighth place in the 3000m respectively. Matt Krum (Hatfield/ North Penn) also took fifth place in the 800 meters in a time of 1:59.05.
On the women's side, Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/ Middleburg) finished fourth in the 3000 meters in a conference-qualifying time of 10:43, while Ashley Schuck (Milton/ Milton) took fifth in a time of 10:57. Andrea Kellock (Lansdale/ North Penn) also took second place in the 5000 meters in a time of 19:31, while Michelle Jansen (Warrington/ Central Bucks South) finished sixth with a time of 19.49. Raineri, also took fourth place in the long jump clearing 16'-8".
The Huskies will return to action on Thursday when they compete at the Penn Relays starting 7 p.m.
